STRUCTURAL PACKING - Development

Sunday 17 October 2010

Here I have been trying a variety of different layout designs following my initial sketches. I've been trying different type and colours as well as layering the type. I chose a selection of images from the pictures i took of Helen that i thought were most appropriate.

1. I don't like the colour of the type it doesnt work at all
with what i am trying to say. I do like the image though because
it looks as though helen is trying to escape the box. As well
as it looking like shes being prostituted.

2. I prefer this colour of the type but i dont like the image.
It doesnt work with the message i am trying to convey, about
Helen being trapped in the box. However, i am happy with the colour
and i think i will take this on because it works well faded,
and looks seedy.

3. Here i have used the layering technique, to make it look like the
type is trapped. The type is still legible, and the symbolism works.

4. Here i have put the word on the lid of the box. It will make
people want to open it up. You will then see Helen trapped
inside the box and it will illustrate the word and its meaning.
I think it works but it is a little to simple, and looking at the box
flat on would mean that you couldnt see the top and therefore
it would just look like a normal box.

5. With this i placed the type along the bottom of the box
to make it look simple. The only problem is, it doesnt make you look
inside the box.

By looking at these designs, i had another idea which is to put the type on the front of the box, hand cut it out and have the image inside the box which would mean when you look through it you can see the girl inside the box. This is something i am going to look into further.
