Crit my Batman

Friday 5 February 2010

We had a crit to establish the weak points in out ideas and what we could do to improve them further, i was given qutie a few different ideas which worked out really well. All the other ideas are listed in my folder, but the ideas i chose to devlope further were:

100 small Batman silhouettes
100 people in a batman t-shirt
100 large batman silhouettes

For the small batman silhouettes idea i began by using the projector really close up against the wall and began taking shots all around my room and the college, this worked really well. It meant that i could keep the same format and framing. Which was a lot easier instead of just taking a big images on a building it would be hard to keep the same frame. So i took a lot of pictures and then began to work with the exposer of the shots. Originally this was just because i needed more light in certain areas to get the same picture, but once i started with the exposer i developed it further by trying to create complete white outs. I really really liked this look. Especially when the image was projected onto a background with an image, i tried projecting on a various amount of image backgrounds, like posters, flyers etc. I thought this worked well and i could develop it further by using comic book backgrounds, using snippets of the Batman strips.

The next part in my development i set up a poster and began to work with the exposer from the very lowest setting to the highest. The effect with this was great, with the slight shakes in my hand it managed to distort the image and give it a slight blur which i thought worked really well. what i also liked was the transition of the symbol one minute it would be completely black against the background and then slowly it would invert and the outside would become black and you could see the image on the poster taking shape within the signal. I thought this worked well with the contrast, also the over exposed shots helped pick out more detail and make the colors more vibrant which gave a really nice effect. Below show a very basic transition but the best images are in my folder, they show the transition very clearly. I have also posted the video i make of the transition as an example of what it could look like, although i needed to add the comic book strip background and set it up straight and well framed for the final resolution.
