Partner Poster Designs.

Wednesday 2 March 2011

After our, what can only be described as distaterous poster made on tuesday I decided to go back o the drawing board for so that on Wednesday we could produce something that was slick, funny and really incorporated what we are. We had to pick five words that really described our partnership with regards to graphic design. Seeing as we are both type driven, i decided the best avenue to go down would be to use some really expressive and beautifully simplistic type.

The first design i came up with was taking our first initials and breaking the type down into is separate components using the techniques we had already learn't in our type workshops. I think this produces a really simple but crisp design. Its clear and understandable and plays on something everyone would recognise.

The second image I came up with was actually changing the five words that described us into something clever and witty. seeing as we both have a sense of humor i thought it would be good to play on. I feel the statement ' a match made in heaven' was clever because it did have 5 words and described us perfectly. Although i knew that we could only use the 5 words i also added a tag line to the design; 'we are to graphic design, like Helvetica is to type' - essentially implying we are perfect and well that we represent everything Helvetica does. I think the statement itself is powerful enough to stand alone, without any illustration. They type is very simplistic and powerful in itself so it didn't need anything else.

So on Wednesday morning we both decided to use my design to create our poster. Nick suggested the idea of putting the tag line along the bottom or our names in maybe a different font, like a serif font, but i wasn't too sure because i think it would detract from the simplicity of the type itself. So we both agreed to leave it and see how it looked with just our names on.
I am really happy with the poster, i truly think it represents us two and just shows you dont need to go over the top in order to get your message across.
