UV Paint Development

Thursday 4 November 2010

After i had experimented with the pen, i then decided to try and use the paint i had ordered from glowtech. I ordered two colours, white and red. This was in order to see the contrast and how effective colour actually is. it was important when ordering the colours that they were colourless to begin with. I bought some UV paints the other day from craft-wise that were UV reflective except you could already see the colour they were, which wouldn't work with my billboard idea. So again going with the idea of text, i took out the phrase 'lazy dog' from the saying and experimented with it.
I wanted to see what would happen to the paint when diluted to see whether it gave a watery image or whether it was still strong. I knew it would be a lot weaker compared to the text in solid paint.

1. This first image shows me trying out the white UV paint.
It worked really well, again the black lite is not strong enough
to show the whole image but it lights up enough for
you to get the general idea. The paint along the top line really
needs to be a lot thicker, and if it were then it
would give off a brighter colour. That  is something to bare in mind when im
printing my mock ups. Also you can see that
diluting the paint worked but it gives off a really weak colour
so i am not sure whether i will employ this technique
and instead just work in block colours.

2. Here i was using the 'Red' UV paint. the problem with
this paint is that it isnt actually red and comes out more
as an orange glow which was a bit of a shame.
Also although i have painted the top line a lot thicker
compared to the white, its still not very clear and
it doesnt hold up much shape within the text which is annoying.
also after a while for some reason the colour began to fade out
of it, so it got smaller and smaller and harder to read. I wont
be using this ink when i print i think i am going to stick to black
and white and blues. This was defiantly a useful process though.
